Role
My mother works in a hospital, sometimes she tells me stories about patients and their families, some with happy endings, some with regrets, without exception, however, they have all faced unavoidable difficulties of varying degrees.
One day in junior high school, my mother asked me if I would like to experience the work of a medical social worker with her. With curiosity, I readily agreed.
I remember the first time I followed the medical social worker into the ward as a“Volunteer". A dying old soldier who seemed lonely and depressed in the ward. The social worker started talking to him, and he started talking about his past, as if to pour out all the memories in his head. I happen to have some interest in weapons, I talked to the old man about all kinds of weapons. One old and one young chated happily. The old man's eyes gradually revealed a light, happy like a child. At the same time, I had a little sense of accomplishment.
It turned out later that my mother had specially found such an opportunity so that I could use my“Special skills” to help others. So when my mother asked me again if I could volunteer again, I said yes without hesitation. After that, I worked with medical social workers dealing with diffrent kinds of patients. I can't relieve their“physical illness” like doctors and nurses, but I work with social workers to try to relieve their emotions, eliminate their complaints, and build their confidence.
Trudo's epitaph reads: To Cure sometimes, to relieve often, to comfort always. Looking back a hundred years, this is just my personal experience as a volunteer. I have found that the most effective way to deal with people in different situations is not to deny their difficulties, but to objectively assess their situation and offer helpful help. Face the difficulties and solve them, just as Romain Rolland said: There is only one heroism in the world: to see the world as it is and to love it.
Gradually, I would volunteer to work as a social worker, and what struck me is that I could offer a little help to people in need, my presence made their situation a little bit better, I feel the need and the happiness of being needed, while helping others, I also polished myself.
